Regimen Update: Co-washing

As you may already know, I take horseback riding lessons once a week.  I love taking lessons but I realized last week that the helmet, low ponytail, and humidity are taking a toll on my hair.  Specifically, the humidity causes my hair to revert back being to curly, and the low ponytail rubbing on my shirt lead to knots on the ends of my hair.  To mitigate any future damage, I started wearing a low bun secured with my claw clips and I've decided to try co-washing after my riding lesson.

Co-washing or conditioner only washing is a great option if you exercise often or prefer to limit your use of shampoo.  Today was my first day co-washing and so far so good.  It took me only 1 hour to detangle, braid, co-wash, shower, apply leave-in and re-braid.  I used Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner for my co-wash.  My regular conditioner, Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner, is a deep conditioner so co-washing would not be the best way to use it.  I will try other conditioners for my co-wash and write reviews on them also.

Braids secured with perm robs and end paper

Usually when I do a braidout, I wait for my hair to be about 90% dry and then do cornrows.   To save time and minimize manipulation, I rebraided my hair in the sections I use to wash and added perm rods to the ends.  I will show you the results tomorrow.

Do you co-wash? If yes, what conditioner would you recommend?

Thanks for the suggestions! I used Aussie Moist once for a co-wash a couple years ago and I remember liking it. I ended up giving the bottle to my sister because my schedule didn't permit co-washing. I'll have to revisit it.

I love Trader Joes Nourish Spa and Tea Tree Tingle for co-washing. They are a little thick, but I add a little water to dilute and they do a fabulous job of cleansing and conditioning; especially the Tea Tree Tingle, the tingle is divine!

I've gained al ot of progress by co-washing my hair with Suave Humectant. In fact, that is my tried and true staple when it comes to co washing and everytime I switch to something else, I always end up going back. Just last week I tried Tresemme but as soon as this week, I couldn't wait to go back to Suave!
The reason why I like Suave is because my hair feels moisturized but not coated. Also, if I couple it with something like ORS Replenishing conditioner (which is a deep conditioner that works just as great sitting on my hair for 45 as it does with heat) the results are wonderful! Both my daughter and I are texlaxed so I'm not sure how well it does in any other case but I guarantee you, it won't be a Maine N Tail experience at all (I thought I'd let you know that right off, lol!). Anyway Miss, I hope everything goes well for you and we'll see you here and on YouTube! *waving!*

You gotta try Finesse Moisturizing Conditioner!! I've been using this for at least 10 years and I mix it with Pure Virgin Coconut Oil for pre-poos too. It works so well and gives you the "slip" you're looking for. It also moisturizes the new growth very well and makes it sooo manageable... Try it before you knock it!! :-)

I don't know if you would call it co-washing but I use Wen by Chaz Dean cleansing conditioning in Fig. You can get if from QVC. I love it. When you cleanse your hair there is an invigorating feeling on your scalp and your hair is moisturized when you are finished. I hope this helps. BTW your hair his BOMB!
