My Growth and Setbacks 2003-2010

.

F.A.Q.

Here is a list of questions I am frequently asked.  I will update the list, as I receive more questions.
  1. What is hair type?
    • Hair type refers to how loose or tightly curled your hair is and whether the strands are fine/silky or thick/coarse.
  2. What is your hair type?
    • I have very tightly curled hair with mostly thick/coarse strands.  I do have some fine strands sprinkled across my head (as most people do).
  3. What do you mean by "texlaxed"?
    • "Texlaxed" refers to using a relaxer to lightly loosen the curl of your hair, as opposed to relaxing your hair bone straight.  By texlaxing, your hair retains some level of curl and will show the curl when wet.
  4. What is the difference between relaxed hair and texlaxed hair?
    • Texlaxed hair is thicker than bone straight relaxed hair, which is great if you prefer fullness over sleek hair.  However, texlax hair is also more likely to tangle and roller sets and wet wraps won't be as smooth as with relaxed hair.  Texlaxed hair will need more heat than bone straight relaxed hair to look silky and sleek.
  5. What is your hair "secret"?
    • I have no hair secret to making my hair grow and retaining the length.  Hair growth is a byproduct of your diet, exercise etc.  While length retention is the result of proper care.  I eat a high protein diet, and moisturize my ends daily.  Everything I do, I will share with you in this blog and on my YouTube channel.
  6. Does your hair grow fast?
    • No, my hair grows at the average rate of 1/2" per month.
  7. How often do you trim?
    • I trim my hair after every relaxer, so every 10-12 weeks.  My current goal is to thicken up my ends and maintain my current length, so I trim 1" after each relaxer.  When I was trying to retain length, I trimmed as needed but at least every other relaxer.  My biggest trims are usually after a setback, where I remove as much needed to make my hair look healthy.
  8. What is your regimen?
    • I have two different regimens - one for the winter, and one for the rest of the year.  You will find details and videos on my regimen here.
  9. What products do you use?
    • Finding what works for your hair is a tricky and potentially frustrating process.  It took me years to find what worked for me.  I list what I use in my videos here, but keep in mind that these may or may not work for you also.  I suggest that you buy from stores with a return policy, so you can return the products that do not work for your hair.
  10. What is a hair "setback"?
    • When I say setback, I mean that something I did to my hair caused me to lose an unnaturally large amount of hair (due to breakage) in a short period of time (usually the same day as the incident).  I cut my hair after a setback to regain thickness on the ends.
