SNOW!

To my surprise (and chagrin), it started snowing today.  I suspect that this was just an anomaly, and the snow probably won't continue past today.  Don't get me wrong, I love snow and seeing the seasons change.  But today caught be off guard.

Winter officially starts on December 21, and I want to enjoy my hair as much as possible before I start my winter regimen.  That being said, I know that many of you already have consistent snow and severely cold temperatures.  To help those in that situation, I will make a video soon on my winter regimen.

In order to make the video the most helpful, please leave a comment below and tell me what your biggest challenge is when it comes to winterizing your hair.

Will you be getting a wig to wear this winter? If so, whICh one have you chosen? When it is colder I am tempted more to wear my shoulder length hair on my shoulders. My challenge is finding cute and interesting ways to wear my hair off of my shoulders (bunning, etc.)

How to keep in the moisture during the winter months? Do you wash your hair as often?

Much needed advice! I am dealing with a really rainy winter. And we all know rain is not the friend to a girl with relaxed hair. I also am trying to stretch my perms. I really don't want to do wigs and braids have broken off my hair in the past. I am thinking about doing head wraps this winter. What would be your advice? I also find my hair shedding more now that it is winter. I wear my shoulder length down daily usually in Bantu/ Curls or wrapped. Thanks for your help-

Not much. I actually love winter as a transitioner! Why? Because now I can flat iron my natural hair and it will stay versus, when I get it flat ironed and then within the next couple days it starts to frizz up. : ) But I would be interested in different styles one could do with head wraps, scarves, etc.

God bless!

I've decided to wear a weave this year to keep my hair protected from the severe Michigan cold. I know wearing a weave is different than a wig - but I thought you might have some ideas on how I can make sure my hair (scalp and each braid!) stays moisturized beneath the tracks.

Hey! I think moisture and keeping the ends protected are the two biggest things. Having said that I am transitioning with lace fronts. I think that for those who find shea butter to be too heavy usu. might find in the winter its brilliant. it was snowing in LDN two days ago. But I am so far ok with moisture...

Anyhoo, I love your vids. May Jehovah bless that head of hair girl!!! Well done for being concistent with your hair care!!

My biggest challenge during the winter months is cutting back on s-curl. Everyone says that you aren't supposed to use it during the colder months because of the glycerin. S-curl is a staple in my regimen, so cutting back would be difficult. Another challenge is finding a better protective style. I wear buns in the winter, but I sometimes feel that it isn't enough to protect against the cold air. I would love to get a wig, but don't know where to start in picking one.

They blast the heat at my office, it dries out skin and hair. How do you recommend mid-day moisturizing?

Hi Ms Kibibi,

I hope this comment finds you well. I am very new to 'healthy hair journey,' in fact, for about 8 weeks now. I have started including a lot of the helpful techniques that I have read on your blog/videos, and have started to see the small but steady improvements.

I too would love to know how to keep my hair thriving during the winter months. I am not very creative when it come to styling etc. and I think I am even more clueless about wigs/weaves. So, I think my biggest challenge would be how best to achieve healthy stretching during the winter months and what are some things to do to keep my hair protected and healthy if I am not about to wear a wig or weave during the cold months.

Thank you for sharing and I look forward to your video!

Sometimes, the biggest challenge with my hair is the shock it receives when going in and out of the house. The cold weather's harsh wind is relieved by the warm and dry hair at work or home. Although that's okay for my skin, it's bad for my hair. The immediate temperature change causes my strands to flip and damage. As a remedy, I put olive oil on my ends and place my hair in a protective style. Nice article and thanks for sharing.

My hair have been doing very good all the summer and Fall, but biggining last week when it started getting cold and snowing I am experiencing lots of breakage and the conditioners and oils I usually use in my regimen are not working. Use Mizani moisturefuse conditioner, Moisture retention shampoo by Design essential and silk essential serum by DE. I also use Olive oil... all these products have been doing great until recently when the cold started...dont know what to do I am thinking about changing my hair products.
